About Us

The St. Thomas Early Learning Centre acknowledges that we are built on Aboriginal land that has been inhabited by Indigenous peoples long before we arrived. As settlers, we are grateful for the opportunity to meet and work here and we thank the generations of people who have taken care of this land for thousands of years and those who continue to care for it. In particular, we acknowledge the traditional territory of the Anishnabek, Haudenosaunee (Iroquois), and Ojibway/Chippewa peoples. This territory is covered by the Upper Canada Treaties. We also recognize the contributions that the Métis, Inuit, and other Indigenous peoples have made, both in shaping and strengthening this community in particular, and our province and country as a whole. Their historic connection to this land is something we deeply appreciate. As settlers, this recognition of the contributions and historic importance of Indigenous peoples must also be clearly connected to our collective commitment to make the promise and the challenge of Truth and Reconciliation real in our communities through continuous education and advocacy.

The organization also provides home-based services to provide a different option for families looking for an alternative to our centre-based programs. Our Home Childcare Services offers children 0-12 a multi-aged group childcare opportunity to be all together in a home-based setting. Many of our programs offer special outings and learning opportunities right within our community.  Our homes provide environments with a natural feel including loose parts and, practical play that is based on How Does Learning Happen, offers nutrition menus based on Canada’s Food Guide and Paint Your Plate. Home Childcare Providers are supported on a regular basis through our Team of Home Visitors.   Our Home Childcare Visitors are Registered Early Childhood Educators who visit homes regularly. Home Childcare is offered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week based on mutually agreed upon times by Caregiver and Parents in the community of Elgin County.
