HEALTHY EATING AT ELC
At St. Thomas Early Learning Centre, we are committed to creating a healthy eating environment where children can build a positive relationship with food. Educators role model healthy eating behaviours and encourage children to listen to their bodies by deciding how much to eat from what is offered.
We promote a relaxed and supportive mealtime atmosphere. Negative comments about food are discouraged, allowing children to explore and form their own likes and dislikes without pressure. Health eating is also woven into our creative play and learning activities, making fun and engaging.
As part of our commitment to health eating, we incorporate the Paint Your Plate approach – an initiative by Child Care Ontario that encourages a variety of colourfull fruits and vegetable at every meal. This helps children learn about balanced nutrition in a simple and visual way. Our team also works closely with parents, volunteers, and students to promote the importance of healthy eating habits both at the Centre and at home.
